Slimming world and pregnancy

I'm sure that most women when they are preganant do not want to follow a 'diet'. Most are probably thinking I'm crazy as this is a carte Blanche excuse to eat whatever you want and getaway with it. Well in my first pregnancy I did exactly that. I'm not too sure how much I did put on but I'm sure it was about three stone. I am only 5'4" and it showed a bit too much! I joined Slimming World when Bobby was 6 weeks old. I learnt very quickly that SW is a lifestyle and not a diet and that is why I am following the plan whilst pregnant.

The plan is also the only one endorsed by The Royal College of midwives. Who can argue with that eh? There are many reasons to eat well and stay active during pregnancy. You are giving your unborn child the very best start. This for me is my motivation. Whilst my son is super healthy and growing really fast I did live on egg mayonnaise baguettes whilst pregnant. Yep at LEAST one a day! It can't be the best building blocks for a baby especially as I followed that with crisps, chocolate and fast food.

Other benefits include decreased risk of gestational diabetes, more energy and being able to get back to a healthy weight after the birth. If you are also doing body magic then it can help you have a 'easier' birth.

In order to get the very best from this sensible eating plan follow food optimising. I do the 'extra easy' plan. This means I have unlimited free and super free foods coupled with one healthy extra a choice and a healthy extra b choice. You can then use the additional 5-15 syn allowance to complement your meals.

In order to get a really good balance of nutrients needed during pregnancy then I have an additional a and b choice.

I try and limit my coffee to one cup a day and 2 portions of oily fish a week. I have also madethe choice to cut out alcohol. There are many foods that you should avoid during pregnancy such as blue cheese, pâté, deli meats and food containing uncooked eggs. Luckily these are high in syns!

So thank you for being interested in my journey. I am 19 weeks pregnant tomorrow and hope to inspire any women in a similar situation. I am very blessed to be having another child and want to set the best possible example to her.

Big hugs,

K x
