What the doctor said......
The past week has been a tough personal battle.
As you may be aware from reading my first post I have become pregnant with my 2nd baby quite quick after my first. This meant that after the eat-a-thon that was my first pregnancy I had only lost the additional weight before I fell pregnant again.
Your first appointment with the hospital when you fall pregnant is called a 'booking appointment' . At this appointment they weigh you amongst other health checks. I was given a consultation appointment as they want to monitor me through my pregnancy for two reasons-a problem with my last labour and my bmi. I'm over weight but not enough to be a problem to anyone else apart from me so I thought this was precautionary, so I was not worried.
I had said consultants appointment last Wednesday and I was told I was putting myself and my baby at risk by having a bmi of 35. I was stunned. The consultant then read out a whole host of complications that I am at risk of such as increased risk of gestational diabetes, high birth weight, increased risk of shoulder displacia, caesarean ,blood clots , dvt and the list goes on. The bottom line is no extra weight must be put on. I was beside myself in tears. This is all my fault. I have made this happen. No one else made me eat that McDonald's or Pizza Hut except me and now I am living with the consequences.
I am writing this on Saturday, three days later. I have now accepted this situation and know I am doing the right thing by trusting Slimming world and my consultant Kylie for helping me and ultimately my unborn daughter.
I am taking each day as it comes and enjoying being heathy and food optimising. My husband is a real strength and I thank him so much from the bottom of my heart.
I will keep you all posted.
Big hugs,
K x

Slimming world and pregnancy
I'm sure that most women when they are preganant do not want to follow a 'diet'. Most are probably thinking I'm crazy as this is a carte Blanche excuse to eat whatever you want and getaway with it. Well in my first pregnancy I did exactly that. I'm not too sure how much I did put on but I'm sure it was about three stone. I am only 5'4" and it showed a bit too much! I joined Slimming World when Bobby was 6 weeks old. I learnt very quickly that SW is a lifestyle and not a diet and that is why I am following the plan whilst pregnant.
The plan is also the only one endorsed by The Royal College of midwives. Who can argue with that eh? There are many reasons to eat well and stay active during pregnancy. You are giving your unborn child the very best start. This for me is my motivation. Whilst my son is super healthy and growing really fast I did live on egg mayonnaise baguettes whilst pregnant. Yep at LEAST one a day! It can't be the best building blocks for a baby especially as I followed that with crisps, chocolate and fast food.
Other benefits include decreased risk of gestational diabetes, more energy and being able to get back to a healthy weight after the birth. If you are also doing body magic then it can help you have a 'easier' birth.
In order to get the very best from this sensible eating plan follow food optimising. I do the 'extra easy' plan. This means I have unlimited free and super free foods coupled with one healthy extra a choice and a healthy extra b choice. You can then use the additional 5-15 syn allowance to complement your meals.
In order to get a really good balance of nutrients needed during pregnancy then I have an additional a and b choice.
I try and limit my coffee to one cup a day and 2 portions of oily fish a week. I have also madethe choice to cut out alcohol. There are many foods that you should avoid during pregnancy such as blue cheese, pâté, deli meats and food containing uncooked eggs. Luckily these are high in syns!
So thank you for being interested in my journey. I am 19 weeks pregnant tomorrow and hope to inspire any women in a similar situation. I am very blessed to be having another child and want to set the best possible example to her.
Big hugs,
K x

This is me!
This photo makes me shudder! In 2006 when I met then boyfriend Jon. I was skinny. I worked out regularly and in the shape of my life at 26. I fell in love instantly and we moved in three months later, engaged 18 months and got married ofter two years together. I was so happy and content with my relationship that I thought nothing about sharing his portions and his penchant for sweet things and takeaways that I put on in the 5 years we have been together 4 stone. 4 STONE???!!!
It felt like it slowly crept up on me, i didn't notice it and did not think anything of wearing my size 16 than size 14. I've always had a large booty you see.
Like in the past when i've been a little heavy I turned to weight watchers. I went and always had a good first week loss then celebrate with something naughty and then feel bad when the scales were not as good as the previous week. This would send me into an vicious circle of eating to feel better about the weight gain, feeling bad about eating and the guilt of a gain on the scales. Often I would just avoid going to avoid the scales and guilt. I'd promise myself that I could lose double the next week if I start being good on monday. That was the monday that it was someones birthday in the office and cream cakes all around. yep you've guessed it straight back on the binge. A couple of weeks later i would sheepishly return to WW heavier and vowing never to do the same thing again. I would spend at least £20 on the latest gadgets to make sure i got all the help. I did this horrid cycle about 20 times. I would even go to different groups so the leader would not give me that look... the look of 'I know you've eaten your body weight in carbs and cheese this week'.....
In February 2012 I had my son Bobby. He is the apple of my eye! I gained three stone during pregnancy and lost most of it quickly thru breast feeding and running around. My body has changed beyond recognition. I joined slimming world to lose the last of the weight (1 stone 4lbs in total) but went back to work in September 2012 and guess what? Life took over and I quit :-(
In November 2012 I found out that I am expecting another little one. The party line on this one is 'Unplanned but not unwelcome'! It was a total shock! I was determined to stay healthy and I am following Slimming world at the Hyde out, Stevenage group throughout my pregnancy. My aim is to stay healthy and give my baby the best start. After my little princess is born I will be back on my weight loss journey.
This blog is my journal of my journey. One to a slimmer healthier Me. Everyone has there story to tell and there way of getting through life. This is mine.
Please share yours.
Big hugs
Katie xxx
